Okay maybe I'm being a tad anal here, after all The Small Faces were pretty much one hit wonders here in the States ("Itchycoo Park") and since obviously the folks at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame are complete fucktwits (oh b.t.w they've also nominated The Red Hot Chili Peppers as well, just to give you an idea of which orfice they've been keeping their heads in when they're not using them for you know, thinking). Okay so both bands shared the same bassist, keyboardist and drummer, but that's about it. Steve Marriott lead vocals and lead guitar and Rod Stewart lead vocals and Ron Wood lead guitar, BIG difference. Two different sounds. You can draw comparisons this way, below is a Small Faces video and then a Faces video:
Small Faces/Faces man at the organ and patron saint of "Anorak Thing" Mr. Ian McLagan was interviewed on the whole shebang and you can catch his witticisms on the whole matter here, where he concedes, as do we, that at least they made it in:

In case you are STILL confused here are the two bands:

Here are THE SMALL FACES (having just smoked a few "jazz Woodbines" and defaced some kids artwork) |

And these are THE FACES (having probably just emptied the contents of the hotel bar's stock). |
Got it now?!

It's almost like they inducted the Beatles and Wings together.
I think the only R&R Hall of Fame that matters is the one in your head.
Great post - and LOVE the Morecambe & Wise clip, never seen that before. Amd somehow you can't get much more English really than Morecambe & Wise (many a happy childhood memory) and the Small Faces, can you...?!

Brilliant!
I'm of a mixed opinion on their entry. On one hand, I'm glad that the SF are finally getting some recognition (even if it is piggy-backing off the Faces). Hopefully, it'll get more people hunting down their back catalogue.
On the other hand, I've never liked the idea of a Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame. This article is pretty spot-on: http://gawker.com/5865912/the-rock-and-roll-hall-of-fame-is-so-goddamn-embarrassing
Supercool!
I'm more perturbed by your news Donovan is gonna be inducted. Still, at this rate my old knockabout garage band will be getting the call in a couple of years. Gonna make room on my mantelpiece now.
